Two charities have split more than $7,200 thanks to the 5th annual Mason-McDuffie Mortgage Charity Golf Tournament

SAN RAMON—Two charities have split more than $7,200 thanks to the 5th annual Mason-McDuffie Mortgage Charity Golf Tournament.

The funds went to the Huntington’s Disease Society and to the Contra Costa Association of REALTORS Scholarship Foundation. The tournament has raised more than $47,000 for charities in its five-year history.

The 2011 event, held June 27 at the Diablo Country Club, drew 109 golfers on a perfect day to play.

“The feedback we got from the golfers was they had a great time, raised funds for two great organizations and the course and the weather were perfect. It rained the next day,” said three-time tournament chair Kaveh Sartipi, a Mason-McDuffie vice-president and Danville branch manager.

“We had a lot of local businesses participate and the tournament is definitely heading in the right direction as far as growing and getting more people involved,” he said.

Huntington’s disease is a genetic disease passed from a parent to a child in which certain nerves in the brain degenerate. There is no known cure, but the society is funding research seeking both better treatments and an eventual cure.

Mason-McDuffie chose the Huntington’s society after some of their associates told them about a friend who had the disease.

The Contra Costa REALTORS’ scholarship is designed for a college student enrolled a major in college that could lead to a career in real estate. A grade-point-average of 3.0 is required to apply for the scholarship.
