Mason-McDuffie Mortgage Inc. has expanded the scope of its credit union division

SAN RAMON—Mason-McDuffie Mortgage Inc. has expanded the scope of its credit union division to include community banks, President and CEO Marilyn Richardson announced recently.

The mortgage firm, re-established in late 2005 here in San Ramon, has offered mortgage services to credit unions for a number of years. The service allows a credit union to offer a full-range of mortgage services to its members without having to build an in-house mortgage division. Mason-McDuffie’s service includes a seamless interface on the credit union’s web site that allows the member to apply for a loan.

Each credit union is serviced by designated loan officers in nearby Mason-McDuffie branches.

Chad O’Brien, the vice-president of business development who heads this effort, will be reaching out to community banks so they can provide a level of service equal to the large banks that are active mortgage lenders.

With its FHA and Ginnie Mae direct lender status, Mason-McDuffie’s product line is equivalent to what the largest banks and mortgage firms offer. That is coupled with efficient service that typically results in loans closing in 25 days.

"My goal will be to contact community banks in communities where we have offices and offer our mortgage services to round out the portfolio of what they can offer to their customers,” O’Brien said. “This allows smaller financial institutions to say yes to their customers when they want a first mortgage.”

Mason-McDuffie is celebrating its 125th year of service to the real estate industry in the Bay Area. It was founded in Berkeley in 1887.
