Mason-McDuffie Mortgage Corp. has launched a new borrower educational effort

SAN RAMON— Mason-McDuffie Mortgage Corp. has launched a new borrower educational effort by partnering with the Darrell Clow Real Estate Reality radio show.

The show airs Saturdays at 1 p.m. on KDOW, am 1220.

Mason-McDuffie Mortgage is featured in a 10- to 20-minute segment that focuses on borrowers and helping guide them to the proper loan products. Brian Linchey, vice-president and San Ramon branch manager, and John Herring V, an operations analyst, have led the Mason-McDuffie participation since February.

One of them is accompanied on each show by a loan officer who explains a specific aspect of lending or a mortgage product, all aimed at educating consumers about their options in the mortgage market.

Clow, a veteran of 40 years in the East Bay real estate business, and co-host Michael Moore guide the discussion.

“We take an educational approach directed at consumers,” said Linchey. “For instance, we discussed two different programs to help people get into homes with no or low down payments. What’s beautiful about the FHA program is that people we helped get into homes two or three years ago now have dramatically improved net worth.”

He cited one program that focused on 80-10-10 mortgages to help buyers in the $750,000 to $900,000 home price range qualify for conforming loans that have less restrictive standards than the jumbo loan programs. The program includes an 80 percent first mortgage, a 10 percent second mortgage and a 10 percent down payment. Utilizing this program has helped couples purchase homes in desirable school districts that they could not qualify for with a jumbo loan and given them better interest rates.
